To compare surname fit, hold the given name constant and read it with two sample surnames. The teaching examples 林安然 (Lín Ānrán) and 李安然 (Lǐ Ānrán) keep 安然 unchanged while changing the first syllable. Then return to the surname you actually plan to use and compare two given names. This makes it easier to hear which change affects your preference.
The sample surnames are there to demonstrate combinations. They do not establish ancestry and should not displace an existing family name. A smooth pinyin pattern is only one part of the decision; the exact written sequence may also resemble a word or carry an association worth checking.
